2019 | 05-16: Angelina Jolie congratulates Sahraa Karimi

Angelina Jolie congratulates Sahraa Karimi on her appointment as the new general director of Afghan Film Organisation, which is a state-run film company production company.


Sahraa Karimi becomes the first woman to head the AFO, and she was selected through a merit-based process that was conducted by the Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission. In a tweet, Karimi said:

"A beautiful congratulatory note from a friend to all #Afghan women, Angelina Jolie. The power of sisterhood could repair, heal and motivate us all. Cinema impact far greater than we imagine. True images to be captured and projected especially of #Afghanistan and its people."

2019 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial

2019.03.29 Angelina Jolie Speaks before the state members of the UN at the UN Peacekeeping Summit at the headquarters of United Nations. Lieutenant Commander Marcia Andrade Braga, a Naval officer working in MINUSCA who wins "United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award" was pictured with UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie as they enter the building. UNHCR S.E Angelina Jolie speaks before the UN Security Council on CRSV

Speaking to the UN Security Council today, UNHCR Special Envoy #AngelinaJolie cited an upcoming Amnesty International report on Yezidi child survivors of the armed group calling itself the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq. Highlighting the lack of services available for child survivors of sexual violence and other violations, and calling for an urgent increase in international funding and dedicated services for children, Angelina Jolie’s remarks cited Amnesty International’s research: “Many children were murdered, but nearly 2,000 have returned.
